Grazie ad un montaggio incalzante e ad una sceneggiatura fluida, “Santa Lucia” offre un delicato spaccato della vita di una famiglia napoletana. Una carrellata di ricordi e suggestioni personali che si muove su più piani temporali diventa una riflessione sul tempo che scorre, sulle scelte di vita individuali e sulle loro conseguenze su chi ci circonda, sulla realtà e l’immaginazione. Una fotografia ed una recitazione particolarmente riuscite conferiscono profondità al racconto ed il tutto si fonde in una narrazione che è innovativa, creativa e meditativa allo stesso tempo.
With a pressing editing and a fluid script, “Santa Lucia” offers a delicate insight into the life of a Neapolitan family. A parade of memories and personal images on different temporal levels become a meditation on the passing of time, on individual life choices and on their consequences for those around us, on reality and imagination. Per la messa in scena lucida. Per il bianco e nero inquieto che scarnifica la periferia pedemontana in cui è ambientato il film. Per aver raccontato con umorismo nero, a tratti crudele, un’improbabile amicizia tra due sconosciuti nata da un macabro patto di morte. Per essere un film fatto di carne e ossa, dove lo stile documentaristico scelto diventa metafora e mai banale realismo, la menzione speciale lungometraggi va a “Altri cannibali” di Francesco Sossai.
For the crystal clear staging. For the disturbed black and white photography, which strips down the piedmont suburban area where the film is set. For telling with black humour, sometimes cruel, an unlikely friendship between two strangers that was born from a morbid death pact. Per un film capace di raccontare un microcosmo con sguardo d’antropologo e istinto da poeta. Un film che riesce nell’impresa di far emergere la tradizione senza abbandonarsi alla nostalgia, anzi ribadendo l’importanza del passato per il futuro. Per la capacità di raccontare anche attraverso gli strumenti della finzione l’importanza delle storie per l’umanità tutta, il premio della giuria va a “Pupus” di Miriam Cossu Sparagano Ferraye.
For a film which is able to tell the story of a microcosm with the gaze of an anthropologist and the instinct of a poet. A film which manages to bring out the tradition without indulging in nostalgia, reaffirming the importance of the past for the future, indeed. For the ability to tell, also through the instruments of fiction, the importance of stories for all mankind, the jury’s award goes to “Pupus” by Miriam Cossu Sparagano Ferraye.

It’s not easy to be original, light and deep at the same time. In this short film, whose issue is a dramatic event, Valerio Vestoso managed to create an absorbing tale of an excellent cinematographic level, a good technical skill combined with an ability to tell, entrusting the characters an unexpected role compared to the stereotype and putting the jury members unanimously agree in the choice of this year’s winner.
